Customers Reviews "I love how fast and cheap this place is... and how it is open 24 hours/7 days a week. The menu is HUGE with mediterranean and regular American dishes. Most of their combos (gyros, fish sandwiches, burgers, etc.) with fries and a drink are less than $6.00... and the drink's free if you are a student. I highly recommend Al's for those on a college student budget. Oh yeah, and they have a huge outdoor patio." Crucial after night on town "Al's offers fast and tasty food at a reasonable price. They are open 24 hours, so they are the perfect place to unwind after barhopping. Al's is excellent! The atmosphere is nothing to look at but it's the food that attracts everyone to Al's. Their staples are fries, chicken wings, salads, and pita wrap sandwiches. Not only do they have sweet tea, they have mint sweet tea! Honestly, on a scale of 5 stars, I give Al's 5 and 2/3. The food is that good! Oh, how can I forget the backed potatoes? The have the biggest stuffed backed potatoes I have ever seen." Great!! The food is good. The service is pretty fast. The indoor booths are kind of tight if you are a little larger than medium, but they have outdoor dining for good weather. It's also conveniently located on the southside at UAB. My friends and I have had great times there at late night. The meals are reasonable as well." Great Place

The atmosphere is wonderful. You can sit outside and enjoy a meal as well as a good conversation with friends. The place is great i suggest you get there and try it out!" I can't find anything on the menu I don't like and the people there are great. Every UAB student's lifeline is Al's. I know people who eat there everyday! I have two favorite resturants ever and that Al's and Surin West." Great for college crowd "I may have found this as a cool spot in my college days. The outdoor patio area looked like it was a jewel years ago. But now the fountain is filled with murky-dark greenish-black water, the tables and chairs are speckled with a mass of pigeon droppings and feathers. Oh, the pigeons (ugly & anemic birds not your pretty park birds) are all over the place intruding while you eat. It's obvious they are accustomed to being fed because they don't fly away when you try to "shew" them. Anyway that was the biggest annoyance of our eating experience. With everything filled with droppings and loose feathers and ugly birds all abound it gave us a rather "uggh" feeling. The food arrived very fast. It was average at best. I think the rave for this restarant is because the B'ham area doesn't have many Mediteranean spots. Not much for competition. But, the Purple Onion two doors down look much more appealing & clean particularly with their covered patio, sans the pigeons. When ordering be careful because everything you order will automatically be converted to a combo w/fries and a drink if you don't specify otherwise. My son and I do not eat fries but we got them antway although we did not order the combo. Great way to up-sale. So if you're amongst the invincible college crowd this makes a great place for hanging out especially late night. But if you're a mom concerned about sanitary environments as well as good food for the kids and family, go ahead and take a pass on this spot. Or eat inside or order to go. Or even just go two doors down to the Purple Onion." Excellent service for a very low price "You can eat one of the best mediterennian food in town but still doesn't hurt your budget. They are open 24/7 and great food anytime you want. Plates, roll-ups,omlets,salads (I esp. recommend Greek salad with chicken and you should try their regular fries)"
